Understanding Alerts and Signals
Many Ninjacators tools include built-in alerts and signals that notify you when a specific market condition has been met. This article explains how alerts work, the different types available, and how to make sure you never miss one.
Types of Alerts
| Alert Type | How It Works |
|---|---|
| Audio Alert | Plays a sound through your computer speakers when a signal fires. NinjaTrader must be running and your computer volume must be on. |
| Pop-Up Alert | Displays a message box on your screen. Useful if you are watching multiple charts and want a visual cue. |
| Email Alert | Sends an email notification to your address when a signal fires. Requires email settings to be configured in NinjaTrader under Tools > Options > Alerts. |
| Browser Push Notification | Sends a notification to your web browser. See our article: Browser Push Notifications for setup instructions. |
Enabling Alerts on Your Indicator
Most Ninjacators signal tools have an alert option built into their settings panel. When you apply the indicator to your chart (right-click > Indicators), look for a parameter labeled Enable Alerts, Alert Sound, or similar. Set this to True or select your preferred alert type.
Custom Audio Alerts
NinjaTrader allows you to use custom audio files (.wav format) for your alerts. If you would like to set up a custom sound, please see our mini course: How To Create Custom Audio Alerts, available in your DTS member area.
My Alerts Are Not Firing
If you are not receiving alerts when you expect to, check the following:
- Confirm the alert option is set to True in the indicator settings.
- Make sure your computer's volume is turned up (for audio alerts).
- Check that NinjaTrader's alert log (under the Alerts tab at the bottom of the platform) is not showing errors.
- For email alerts, verify your email settings are correctly configured under Tools > Options > Alerts in NinjaTrader.
If alerts are still not working after checking the above, please contact support at help@ninjacators.com.
