How to Apply an Indicator to Your Chart in NinjaTrader 8
Once you have installed a Ninjacators indicator into NinjaTrader 8, the next step is to apply it to a chart so you can see it in action. This article walks you through the process step by step.
Before You Start
Make sure you have already installed the indicator file into NinjaTrader. If you have not done this yet, please see our article: How to Install a Zip File and/or MSI File. You will also need an active data feed and an open chart for the instrument you want to trade.
Steps to Apply an Indicator
- Open a chart in NinjaTrader 8 for the instrument and timeframe you want to use (e.g., ES 1-minute, NQ 5-minute).
- Right-click anywhere on the chart to open the context menu.
- Select Indicators... from the menu. This opens the Indicators window.
- In the left-hand panel, scroll through the list to find your Ninjacators indicator. It will be listed by name.
- Double-click the indicator name (or click it once and then click Add) to add it to the right-hand panel.
- Adjust any settings or parameters as needed in the panel on the right. Refer to your product's setup guide for recommended settings.
- Click OK to apply the indicator to your chart.
I Can't Find My Indicator in the List
If your indicator does not appear in the list, it may not have been installed correctly. Try the following:
- Restart NinjaTrader after installation — new indicators sometimes do not appear until after a restart.
- Confirm the installation completed without errors. See: How to Install a Zip File and/or MSI File.
- If the issue persists, contact support at help@ninjacators.com with a screenshot of your Indicators list.
Where Do I Find Recommended Settings?
Each Ninjacators product includes a setup guide or documentation in your DTS member area at dts.ninjacators.com. These guides include recommended timeframes, parameter settings, and usage tips specific to that tool.
