Introduction to Automated Trading with Ninjacators

Automated trading — sometimes called algorithmic trading or "running bots" — means that a pre-programmed strategy monitors the market and places trades on your behalf, without you needing to watch the screen or make manual decisions in the moment.

At Ninjacators, our automated strategies are built specifically for the NinjaTrader 8 platform and are designed for futures markets. This article gives you a plain-English overview of how they work and what to expect.

How Does It Work?

Each automated strategy (or "bot") contains a set of rules — entry conditions, exit conditions, position sizing, and risk limits — that have been coded directly into the software. Once you load the bot onto a NinjaTrader chart and enable it, it will monitor the market according to those rules and execute trades automatically when the conditions are met.

You do not need to be at your computer for the bot to trade. However, your NinjaTrader platform must be running and connected to a live data feed for the bot to function. Many traders use a Virtual Private Server (VPS) to keep NinjaTrader running 24/7 without leaving their personal computer on.

What Automated Bots Do Not Do

It is important to have realistic expectations. Automated strategies are tools that execute a defined set of rules — they are not a guarantee of profit. Markets change, and no strategy performs equally well in all conditions. Our bots are designed with built-in risk management features (such as daily loss limits), but all trading involves risk, and you should only trade with capital you can afford to lose.
